Scientist estimates that Reptiles have been since 312 million years ago. One of the most famous reptile around us is Crocodile. Another one, that is mostly found

in home is Homed Lizard.

These type of animals usually have dry and rough skin. Their skin is commonly covered with hard plates or scales. This type of creatures are usually cold-blooded.

Which means their blood temperature is usually not maintained. Their blood temperature is just according to their local environment.

Almost all of them have backbone so, they belongs to type of animals which are known as Vertebrates. They are found worldwide. As they are cold-blooded, we found then mostly in warm areas.

According to new studies. Their are some type of birds which belonging to this group.

Respiratory system of all reptile are lungs. All of them breathe using their lungs. However, some of them have developed additional systems. Like tortoises and turtles have adopted a little more complex breathing system. This is due to the fact that, turtle shells are mostly rough and hard. This creates problem in  contraction and expansion of lungs. To solve this issue, turtles have developed a special sheet of muscles. That muscle covers the lungs and help them breathe by contracting and expanding this muscle.

The skin of reptile is scaled and water tight. This helps them live on dry land as well. Despite of being hard and rough skin. Reptile skin is not considered as strong as of mammals.

Reptiles have very interesting digestive system.  Although, it completely depend on which category of food they eat.  Like herbivorous reptiles lack complex teeth mechanism. To help grind the food, they eat rocks to aid in digestion. When these pebbles enters the stomach, they help smashing the plant material. now a days, there are limited form of herbivorous reptiles like turtle, iguana and some agamas. Carnivorous reptiles have short digestive system.

The metabolism of reptiles is slower as compared to mammals.Almost all reptiles are lazy. These animals after taking food, moves to rest place where they can digest there meal. 

Most of them have colored vision adapted to daylight. The But some have reduces vision like snakes as blind. However snakes have developed extra visual organs such as they are sensitive to infrared radiation. They can sense the body heat of their prey and other animals.

Reptiles mate both sexually and asexually. Their body have single entrance and exit point for both sexual activities and eliminating feces called cloaca. This single point is located near start of their tail. Some male have single penis, whereas there is type of genre like some snakes have pair of them. Tuatara is one of is animals which lacking male penis. Alternatively both female and male tuatara then simple press their cloacas together so the sperms of male are discharged.
